Curious Pictures Names Karina Kliss
Head of Film & TV Development

Executive joins from Starz Animation with mandate
to acquire and develop feature and entertainment projects

New York, NY – July 9, 2007 – Curious Pictures has named Karina Kliss to the newly-formed post of Head of Film & TV Development.  The announcement was made by Richard Winkler, Partner and Executive Producer at the award-winning mixed-media production company.

“Now that Curious Pictures is moving into feature films, Karina is the perfect match for us,” says Winkler. “We’re already working in a diverse range of platforms such as web shorts, games and TV series.  Karina will tap the resources of the studio and its relationships with filmmakers and content creators, as well as attract new talent that will find Curious an attractive base for their work.  Our overall goal is to expand our activities into a wider range of entertainment properties aimed at a broader audience.”

Kliss joins Curious from Starz Animation, where as a development executive she was charged with optioning and developing CGI feature properties aimed at family audiences, as well as lower-budget animated titles aimed at teens and up.  Kliss served as the production exec on several titles, including Everyone’s Hero (2006).  She came to Starz from IDT Entertainment, which was acquired by Starz last year.  Prior to joining IDT, Kliss spent four years in production and development at Miramax Films.

Curious has a significant number of major broadcast projects to its credit, notes Winkler, including producing the top-rated pre-school TV show Little Einsteins for Playhouse Disney.  The studio also recently produced thirty-minutes of innovative motion-capture animation for director Brett Morgen’s Chicago 10, which opened the Sundance Festival this year and has been picked up by Roadside Attractions for a 2008 release.

“Curious is uniquely positioned to be moving into the feature film arena right now,” says Kliss.  “We’ll be focusing on areas where we’re already strong—in creating feature animated fare for families, for example.  But we’re also very interested in pursuing animated genre films aimed at teens and adults, as well as material that reflects more of an independent film sensibility.”
