Influences

My influences are pretty widespread and disparate. They include the usual pantheon of Art History deities, plus refusees like Escher; but my work is also influnced by typography, scientific diagram styles and other non-Art visual work...
Then there is a range of non-visual influences, like philosophy, history and poetry all of which I believe influence how I approach a visual problem...
The way I think is, however, pretty disorganized; for instance, in school I had a hard time with Math partly because I was distracted by the design of the notation, among other things....

style/type of work

My first impulse is to resist influences. I rarely look at the work of my contemporaries, if possible; the work of artists I admire is usually so strong that it can embed itself in the subconscious and interfere with finding my own thoughts....
In the end, the creative process is a form of divination; and though the ancient oracles did perhaps use trickery, there was always a mysterious unexplained ....

What is a Designer? Someone, I suppose, who creates images in a nested series. For me, this ranges from Imhotep and Viollet le Duc, to Chopin and Bob Dylan....
